Realised upon reading a friend-cum-travel-mate's blog that I might have sounded more detached than truth mirrors in the last post on the London attack. The fact is that the attack, in retrospect, had been a little TOO close for comfort. Indeed, had the G-8 summit been held exactly a month earlier, when the 4 of us were still in the midst of our European adventure getting on and off the subways along King's Cross and Russell Sq and in the vicinity, things might have been so very different. Perhaps the mind, in response to a need for self-protection from the gravity of the reality, had detached itself from the situation for a moment; so much so that the earlier thoughts upon hearing the news of the carnage and seeing the grisly images were all focused on the more practical and impersonal things, and less on the what ifs that could have been life-changing, to say the very least...

The impact of the attack is sinking in more strongly now. And I can't even begin to imagine the degree of suffering the survivors and the families of the casualties and missing must be going through now.

My heart goes out to them.
