"If we all go for the blonde and block each other, not a single one of us is going to get her. So then we go for her friends, but they will all give us the cold shoulder because no one likes to be second choice. But what if none of us goes for the blonde? We won't get in each other's way and we won't insult the other girls. It's the only way to win. It's the only way we all get laid. "

So said Nash. That was the very first introduction I had to the show. And it was part of our tutorial qs for games theory.

Tonight, I watched the full version of the movie with z and found myself inspired somewhat by it. Other memorable quotes from A Beautiful Mind:

Nash: Perhaps it is good to have a beautiful mind, but an even greater gift is to discover a beautiful heart.

Charles: There's no such thing as "for sure". That's the only sure thing I do know
(Once again, here's alluding to the saying that the only Constant in this world is Change- We lead a dynamic, fast-paced life... but I still believe we should not miss out on the rainbows on the way...)

Alicia: How big is the universe?
Nash: Infinite.
Alicia: How do you know?
Nash: I know because all the data indicates it's infinite.
Alicia: But it hasn't been proven yet.
Nash: No.
Alicia: You haven't seen it.
Nash: No.
Alicia: How do you know for sure?
Nash: I don't, I just believe it.
Alicia: It's the same with love I guess.

And..like all epic love stories, this one also had an unforgettable ending touch to it...

At the Nobel prize-giving ceremony:
Nash: I've made the most important discovery of my life. It's only in the mysterious equation of love that any logical reasons can be found. I'm only here tonight because of you. You're the only reason I am... you're all the reasons I am.

But it was not just the emotional bits in the show that gave this film the 'wow' factor. I guess it's also the fact that after having just studied the Nash Equilibrium and its associated prisoner's dilemma, strategic moves, dominant and dominated strategy and all, it's cool to see these theories put into a story with a plot, and to 'experience' the life story of the genius behind them...

But we both(z and I) wondered just how much of the movie is fiction. And how much, truth.

And so the econs and psych students shared a movie that had a theme transversing both fields of discipline. We exchanged our opinions and relevant knowledge on the topics.

It felt quite nice. And led me to reconsider my accomm. options again for the coming year. It's the company that counts- and that's what's making it so hard to decide for now.
